What should you do if your lettuce is limp ... ?

I am not sure if it would work with lettuce, but with celery, if you slice off the bottom and put it in a glass of water, it perks up.

My grandfather's favorite recipe was called "Wilted Lettuce Salad". My grandmother would fry up bacon crisp, then mix the bacon fat with vinegar and sugar, and while it was still hot, pour it over loose leaf lettuce. Then she would sprinkle the chopped bacon on everything.
