Does the Mafia still have cities where they go to business owners and make them pay money or use the business as a front for Mafia related activities?

@cherokeepatti that was over a prison dispute I believe. The last boss got killed on the streets was Castellano in the 80’s. In Toronto,little italy all the buildings are owned by the mob on st claire ave. so the tenants pay them rent legally. No need for protection money anymore. The waste industry is also theirs
