Client made fun of me at event? How do I blow it off and be nice ?

I have a client.. who really crazy. With a capital C.. we’ve had all these events where no one showed up. Well we had this next event where I gave it my all.. I spent hours emailing people, connecting on her behalf..event happens.. and people came.. I gave her an introduction, which she partially wrote out.. and after she gets up there she tells the audience .. that was embarrassing.. we also at the end had a conversation where a woman asks how you heal after your husband died.. she says it takes 10 years.. everyone cringes .. the woman says but I have cancer and not long let to live. I tried to save her by saying “and you can also find happiness in everyday life, and hobbies” not necessarily a relationship.. my client fires back “oh that sounds horrible, a hobby” etc .. everyone laughs and one lady is .. ugh ya!! Hahahha... just like embarrassing.. why would you make fun of and be so mean of someone who works really hard for you and is like championing you?... just so mean.. we are about to leave this event and I have to put on a smile and pretend I guess everything’s okay but I’ve now lost my zest for this whole thing. How do I move forward and be nice the rest of the event/trip?
