I recently found a book about sleep by Nick Littlehales. It's not really about how to sleep, but is overall about how to maximise sleep-life balance and how to recover despite a "bad nights sleep", which he says isn't really an issue. Might be worth giving a shot.

@firelaw Give me a quick synopsis.... Yes, there is ways to recover and maximise that delicate balance. I work swing shift continental shifts so I am very curious what the author says. I know a bad nights sleep does affect me.

@SW-User Basically he says that you shouldn't look at sleep like "I need 8 hours per night", more like "I need this amount of sleep cycles per week". Also good sleeping habits include waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Everything else can work around that. He also talks about the R90 sleep cycle, and circadian rhythms. It's pretty interesting.
