Some of us have tried a number of things to improve our lives but haven't yet found anything that works. Sometimes we get frustrated and discouraged and need a little support, or a place to vent a little. And in times of confusion, we sometimes need to bounce some things off other people, who can see things a little more clearly because they are able to be more objective, so we can actually understand what's going on. Because we first need to see the truth of what's actually happening before we can decide what to do about it.
And yes, I include myself, especially in that last bit. I think I've finally reached the point where I'm done venting, or "lamenting" as you say, and I'm ready to do something about it. But I had to work through a lot of confusion and other stuff to get there.
And sometimes, even when we know that crying doesn't really help things, it still hurts. Just picture a kid who has fallen and skinned his/her knees. The kid knows that crying won't make the wound heal any faster, but they still need to cry, at least for a bit. Adults have their moments when they need to do this too.
I hope that helps.
