So I had this guy driving past me and slow down right in front of me holding his cellphone phone up at me today.

It was weird. It appeared after he got a good shot of me he panned the phone around three approaching intersection and pointing the phone at other cars and people inside them. He came to a complete stop about 20 ft before the white line a d continued doing this to my co-worker and other cars around. Everyone including the other drivers were staring at him obviously confused and upset that this guy appeared to be recording everything and everyone. He sat for maybe 10 second before making a right on red and gassed it away.

Does anyone have any idea what this is about or has anyone seen something like this before?

Stealing information electronically from your purse, wallet, phone, etc. Keep an eye out for anything suspicious, your bank account, etc. There are evil people who will do anything nowadays to rip off another human being.
@SW-User good point

you have heard of the google car? Who drives around to get images for google earth. Well, that was the Yahoo car.
Trolling is joking. But ty. I really wasn't sure if that was Yahoo's attempt at replicating Google maps. Tis funny

@Llort It does not feel funny at the moment, but thank you for the pity compliment :)
@Bubbles Yahoo... A broke as Google... Using cellphones to make a knock off Google maps.

It's less funny when I break it down but it was good.

It's funny because it works, but I wouldn't doubt it in this weird as world

He wanted to show off how he didn't know how to drive. I hope the next person he does that to is an off-duty cop, or, better still, a uniformed officer. I live in Illinois, and doing stuff like that is strictly against the law, and has been for a number of years. He may have been drunk or high - who knows? They always say the most dangerous piece of machinery in a car is the "nut" behind the wheel.
@MaryJanine other than distracted driving... Use of a cellphone in a car... It's perfectly legal to record in public spaces in Illinois.

Not when you're that wild..and the idiot who's driving. I didn't say it wasn't legal to "record public spaces". I KNOW you can do that - but NOT WHILE YOU'RE DRIVING, PLEASE! Take someone else with you and let THEM do the recording while you drive. And that fool blew a red light. THAT could have caused an accident - maybe fatal. My youngest brother was in the car with his son driving. On a legal turn, some woman, on a cellphone, blew the red light and crumpled my nephew's car like an accordion. His father had to go through therapy for over a year and live hand-to-mouth to eat and pay bills, since he couldn't work.
I agree that it's illegal to use the phone while driving, but although his drive was odd it was well within safe driving practices. Just overly safe

Using a cellphone here in England while driving is a criminal offence.He behaved so bad he would lose his driving licence and get a big fine.
@tallpowerhouseblonde using your phone while driving is a crime here too

@Llort As it should be.
And people should get their thumbs cut of if they get caught doing it

Don't worry...it was just Google maps updating their data.
SW-User
@Llort I heard it was because Rand McNally was making a new push with their paper maps and that was eating into Googles ad revenue.
I'll have to map search the street view of that intersection in a few days and see if you're right

@Llort If you find it, I am the guy in the hat and dark sunglasses peering over my newspaper you think I am reading.

I would have caused him to look for a good dentist.
@SW-User it all happened so quickly no one really had time to react.
@SheCallsMeCrushDaddy dude I'm saying

@Stereoguy I don't think it was directed at me. It mean, he directed the phone at me, but he did it to everyone else and everything. Even at one point he appeared to be titling it up to get the street lights.
