Did you throw a birthday party for your 1 year old ?

So.. our baby is turning 1. In laws months ago asked about her having a birthday party. I was like huh? The even picked out a date and everything, a couple days after her real birthday. Really odd I think. My husband just recently asked me about it again since we are a few weeks away, saying hey my parents have bought gifts and what not. We need to plan this party. In my mind all I wanted was to just have the 2 of us, a cake and take a couple pictures. But no, he and my in laws are expecting an actually party with all 15 of their aunts cousins, siblings etc to come. This morning husband and I got in a fight about it. His parents say if I don’t throw one they will, but then that makes me look bad. What do I do? Did any of you have a birthday party for a one year old?

Do I looks humbug to his family because I don’t want to have a party? She won’t even remember it. Do I just suck it up an plan it ?

My oldest ended up having 3 cakes for his first birthday, but no actual parties.

We made him a cake at home... which we allowed him to demolish . (he ate very little of it)

Both sets of grandparents did the same when we visited.

I do think that celebrating the first year is warranted, but it should be in the context of the child, in my opinion.

Bear in mind that in some cultures, the first birthday is more important than 13, 16, 18 and 21. First birthday and the 50th birthday are about equivalent.

@JoeyFoxx The cake was the best part of it!
