TonyPajamas · 22-25
People usually think I’m some sort of European, usually Italian or Greek. I’m actually Puerto Rican.
@TonyPajamas Probably a lot of Spanish ancestry.
TonyPajamas · 22-25
@bijouxbroussard yeah, that’s probably it lol

Not a nationality, but over the years, many times, people have asked if or assumed that I'm Jewish. (I'm not.) Not sure why.
Doomflower · 36-40, M
I've had people ask if I am native American. As far as I know, no. My ancestors were mostly from France and the Netherlands but my grandparents were from Quebec so maybe that has something to do with it.
God, I can't tell you how many times I've been asked what part of Ireland I'm from or came from. Never stepped foot on the Emerald Isle, but I do have much Celtic blood coursing through my body, so that and my killer blue eyes, always gets me that question. But I really enjoy it when an Irish person says, "What county are you from?" I reply the County of "da Bronx!" Though I do come under the group known as BICs(Bronx Irish Catholics)!

@bijouxbroussard Oh edited, skin isn't seen as a marker of race in all cultures. In mine we also have whites and blacks, varying eye colors and hair but we see them all as Amazighs.

I grew up in an Arab majority country and had to study the language, religion, cultures, history, politics, you name it, for more than a decade. I can assure you there is not a single work where they distinguish between themselves by colour but many works where Arabism is approached as a racial identity, especially post colonialism's.

If you go back as far as their prophet, you can also find quotes of him trying to end discrimination between his race and the A3jami.

@JimboUk I like hair D : That's all I have to say in the matter.
@Miram I get it. The English consider themselves a "race" too, but technically they're not, as the term was originally defined. Same with Latinos, and that term not only encompasses different racial groups, but actual ethnicities and nationalities.
curiosi · 61-69, F
I don't, when I was in Italy I looked just like them and they would ask which part of Italy my family was from as they knew I was American.
