Do you think the democratic system is working?

Or is the way it's structured making the rich richer, and the poor poorer all the while keeping them suppressed with the illusion of having a voice?

In many countries, the democratic system works very well, in other countries not so well.
It has a lot to do with for how long the country has had democracy and how well developed the democracy is. Democracy can be defined and interpreted in different ways and in some cases, I find that countries have democratic systems that in many ways are undemocratic.
What matters a lot is that the society is not in which the democracy should work is not characterised by corruption and the democracy has become part of the culture so that people are engaged in the democratic processes and committed not just to vote but also to take part in the social debate and influence political decisions.
Honestly, not really because democracy was never meant to give elected officials as much power as they do now and for it be widespread for 350 million people. That’s why America was built on a republic where governments were decentralized as much as possible so the mob rule of democracy didn’t take over. That and the specific form of democracy America has is extremely inefficient where it’s a winner take all system.... In terms of Congress and elected officials, representation should be proportional to how many votes candidates get, instead of someone who recieves 51% getting everything. Also, for presidential elections, people that live in poor, rural states have so much more power with their vote than other states....democracy can only work most effective when less power is centralized

It's capitalism that is 'structured make the rich richer, and the poor poorer all the while keeping them suppressed.'

I think that the democratic system is working well.

It certainly might have its deficits too but it's still the best form from all others ones I know.

How do YOU think about it, my friend? :-)
TheGoodGuy · M
@Loretta78 I don't care bcoz I'm just happy that you're back 🤗🤗🤗
Why did you go?

@TheGoodGuy I've answered you in a PM.

Majority is not at all aware what Democracy is about.

Democracy isn't the problem.

Greed, corruption, and ignorance are what's wrong - And those failures will break any system eventually.
Biffed · 31-35, M
that's socialism

Not a hell of a lot of good options.
In any case, I want anarchy. Not because it will work. I just want it.
BatRinseRepeat · 36-40, F
@VolpeTredici

But if you know it won't work, why do you want it?
VolpeTredici · 31-35, M
@BatRinseRepeat Because whether it works for anyone else or not, it's the most fair way to do thing. Fend for yourselves.

@VolpeTredici

In spite of the dark and dangerous image most anarchists project, what they really think has always seemed to me like another romantic notion of human society.

Tearing down everything and letting chaos create pure individual freedom sounds great - But the problem is that none of us actually "fend for ourselves" in the long run.

Whether its families, tribes, or nations we always end up creating boundaries, rules, leaders and followers. It never really changes.

Does the system really make the poor poorer, or do they keep doing the same dumb things over and over again. Keep buying those lottery tickets.
TheGoodGuy · M
@patkaren1717 lol. High taxes?
MethDozer · M
Democracy has never been a promise against tyranny or denial.
TheGoodGuy · M
@MethDozer yup. Except its a hidden tyranny that most won't see
