Resigned from job, offer might be recinded.. anyone else?

Man I’m in a tough spot. I put in my notice to my old job after receiving and offer form this great company. So great. 8 freakin week interview process but was just thankful to get an offer. They did my background check and the HR lady called me to say that there were some issues with my educational background. We never discussed this in the interview at all. Job description doesn’t say it’s required. I put on my resume I had studied at university for a BS in Sociology for 5 years. Listed the dates. This is all true. BUT I didn’t graduate. Despite everything, apparently this is an issue and they are considering rescinding my offer. I did defend myself a little, and told her I just needed to know as soon as possible because of put my notice into my job. They are fully expecting me to leave and have already filled my role. I need to know so I can stop that train if possible. She said it all needed to go up the ladder - and that she would get back to me. Well here I am today, the next day of business and no phone call.. not sure what to do or what to make of it. Any advice? Anyone been in a similar position?
