I’m learning to drive a car. Finding it difficult to shift gear and focus on the road simultaneously. I believe automatic version would be more easier. But I don’t have one. Any tips?
It just takes time and practice. I learned to drive on a stick...thought I’d never get it. Lol. Now it’s just like breathing. Be patient with yourself and don’t give up.
it's the balance of shift pedal and the gas pedal, if you can get that down, the shifting will be much easier.. honestly practice keeping the car running with out moving in first gear.
Just keep at it, I promise it gets easier. Eventually you will learn to feel the car and won’t need to look at the stick. It’s not hard, just takes practice.
Patience is key. But you'll be spoiled after learning how to shift. Hard to want to go back to an automatic. It's all about feathering. The perfect proporion of gas and clutch. You'll get there
Practice in parking lots and roads where you are familiar.
Driving a manual becomes second nature with practice.
If possible, have a friend with you who is already familiar with a stick. When learning a stick, sometimes things don’t feel normal when they really are.
When I learnt (an awful long time ago!) I found I got to be good at certain aspects and then I got good at other aspects but struggled to do all the aspects at the same time! BUT it all comes together through practice - so please just stick with it and it'll be all good!
