What to do when you see a dead end?

Like when you are driving? There is this highway somewhere in Montana. Can't remember where exactly. We were driving and it abruptly stopped. No turn off or anything. We all got out of our GMC Suburban and kind of poked around. I was 14 at the time. There was nothing there. For some reason it was a really surreal experience for me. We turned around and drove about 40 miles before the next turn off. This was before GPS and stuff like that. We only had a road map, and it had failed us. Hahaha

Well, if we're being literal I think, 'oh crap, I hope there's room somewhere to turn around!' Usually when I find myself on one of these darn streets there's nowhere to turn around! Darn city life :P
