Why the hell does a dress cost so much money

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M Best Comment
Because someone is stupid enough to pay it.

@whowasthatmaskedman got that right

Thank you for that.. It seemed obvious :)😉@whowasthatmaskedman

Try making one,
and see how much it costs to buy the tools and materials,
and how much time it takes.
It will shock you.

Then work out how much goes to the designer, pattern-maker, cutter, machinist, transport costs, advertising, salesperson and the cost of running the shop.
And then add in the cost of the wastage when what doesn't sell goes to the garbage tip.

There are plenty of cheap dresses out there, but they are made by people in the third world paid far less than a living wage, sometimes dying in substandard building collapses or factory fires. And the fabrics that cheap dresses are made from (synthetics) will make the body stink, and will not last more than three machine washes before falling apart or losing their shape and looking hideous.
@hartfire My vote for best answer. not that I have a vote! Yes- a lot goes into making one on our own.

@hartfire I have made a few of my dresses. My dad was a cheap ass. He would never put out a few hundred for a dress. So I ended up having to make it. I am pretty good at it
@smileylovesgaming It's also fun, yes?
One gets to be creative, with a touch of flare and originality.

Because you are a guy. Girls can find them for nothing.
