I have taught mathematics but I don't think I am proud of it.
argav83 · 36-40, M
@SW-User I don't think it's a big deal. I am very helpful in nature I guess or I have a serious problem of not being able to say No to people when they need help....So I am at content with the kind of person I've become with all my faults but I guess more than that I don't think about it. I am okay with it in a neutral sense.
SW-User
@argav83 You’re a humble individual, at least to me 😄

@SW-User lol..yeah...I suppose only to u here today. Have a good day or night.

rckt148 · 61-69, M
I taught mechanics how to work on locomotives
I taught many people how to navigate a vessel
I taught 9 kids to read ,and talk and walk ,do basic math ,all the skills to make it easy on them in school (some have made me regret teaching them to talk lol)
I have taught lots of people to drive
How to shoot and hunt
Raise crops
How to fish
How to survive in the worst conditions we can face

Nothing makes you happier than to make your way home in a hurricane ,or a fire that has taken out power across the whole county .
And find your woman cooking on a fire she built herself
Hot coffee ,everyone has had a bath ,
And she says you didn't need to worry ,you taught us well
We handled everything just fine

I have taught people how to survive ,and if need be ,how to hunt their own water and food for themselves
now my Grandson is a better hunter and fisherman than I am .
Oh ,and I taught him to play the guitar ,he is his Papaws boy
now its my sons turn ,maybe his Nephew can teach him or both of us
my Grandson is now 18 ,my son is only 10 ,
soon he will know how to fend for himself too
He is already a huge help ,he looks after Dad alot
He makes awesome coffee and tea
He complains I taught him to much ,school is kind of boring to him
But he makes killer grades
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@BoobooSnafu No I am not ,there are lots of people here that are Vets and Old School ,in the world we grew up in
most of it was common sense ,and it helped having Grandparent's that lived before indoor plumbing and power they were not scared to death of .(back in their day wiring was not as good as today ,electricity could burn your home down ,so they were for the most part afraid of it ,,I still unplug appliances not in use because of them .
We learned to drive a well by hand ,grow and can our own food
and hunting and fishing was not inhumane ,it was a way of life
No power was no big deal to them ,the oil lamps were in the same place they had been hanging over 100 yrs ,and a hand pump needs no electricity
They stayed prepared ,now so do I .
I had good teachers ,,and my time in service helped too

I did not say all that to brag ,if you know me ,you would know I have a reason to be proud of all that I have accomplished ,I have had to overcome a lot ,
And that was the question ,what have I taught others to do that I am proud of .

its something I think we all should know how to do
Here in Florida you never know when a Hurricane can change your life in a second
Fires and floods across the country ,we are not the only ones who never know .
In the world we live in today we all should have basic skills
only a fool will think they government can save you ,
Katrina was a wake up call for a lot of people ,but how quickly most forget
I'm sorry if I offended @rckt148, I mean no disrespect to anyone here. I meant in relation to participants of this post. I was just showing my respect for you passing on your knowledge. I spent a lot of time in the Bush, and understand a bit of this knowledge - and I know that it's not common any more.
Again - I apologise.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@BoobooSnafu you didn't offend me ,I have tough skin ,I was not sure how to take what you said so I was only hoping to clear it up had I offended you .
Its cool when we have a little patience and are not so easily offended .
Thank you for letting me know I had not offended you ,,
Some here do seem to have a problem with anyone with a little experience ,,
and I do worry I come off as bragging sometimes ,thats not my intent
I try to encourage ,most of the things I have accomplished I managed it in spite of a crippling bone and nerve disease ,at one time until surgery ,it finally put me flat of my back ,unable to even walk ,so I am very proud of overcoming that .

But without going into that every post ,,I do worry that its not taken as encouraging others to fight too ,but as bragging ,so thank you very much for letting me know what you meant ,,my "See I told you voice" I also fight
Would have made me regret even posting it ,I delete a lot of posts I write before I post them for that reason ,I am afraid it will be seen as just me bragging .
Thanks again for the kindness ,,that is not so common now days either
Hope you have a great day 🍻

How I once taught my daughter how to throw a baseball. She was always very smart, a real thinker even around 6 or 7 and not sure if it was watching tv or where she "learned" it, but she would wind up like on a pitcher's mound and throw the ball about 3 feet in front of her and in the dirt.

I told her I know she knows how to throw, I've seen her throw. Don't worry about what it looks like, what you look like, you're thinking about it too much.

I asked her why we are here? To have fun and when you are having fun you smile, so from now on put a smile on your face, and just get the ball to me.

Don't worry about what happens, doesn't matter if it is even a good throw, but I want to see her smile.

It worked so well, her throws were perfect for almost every time, but it especially worked on our smiles, they were big.

It also provided a teaching moment going back to "just smile, and do it, don't over think it" when you find yourself struggling to do something. I learned later when we reconnected that it helped her in many things. (Her mother and I were estranged and I was not in her life for too long a time).

@OKWTF2 That put a smile on my face. She’s like her father, it seems. 😊

@SW-User I knew a young lady who did that on a regular basis
A guy and his buddies ended up forcing her into a van and all of them raped her .

I knew another girl that rented a room ,led men to it ,and her boyfriend who was also pimping her out ,would bust in ,ask the guy why he was with his wife and most of the time the guy would flee ,,she had already pick pocketed him
They were junkies
A few times the guys know they had been rolled and had guns ,or they were willing to fight to get their money back .
Then another junkie that was in on it too busted in with a gun and forced him to leave ,and as he did ,they hit him with the gun ,they made him give up his gun
Some they would leave beat up in the room ,and now they have another gun too .

One guy came back with other guys ,,they shot the guys (not killing them ,just sending a message ,they raped the girl and cut her face .
I lived on South Miami Beach where back in the day it was a rough place .
I lived 2 blocks from South Beach pier where a lot of homeless people and scammers and junkies and addicts lived .it not like that now .

That is not an old game you play ,but it is a dangerous one
Especially if you keep going to the same places ..
My friends and I caught the guy who cut up the girls face
And left him with an eye hanging out of his head in the gutter .we did not kill him but he was not seen around that bar again .

I tried warning them their rolling people was going to catch up to them
I felt kind of responsible
One of the guys was from my home town ,I brought him to Miami to start over and get away from trouble he was in back home .
All I did was bring him to a city that had lots of people like him

I did not know I left my wife in such a dangerous place when I was on duty in the service ,I lived there because it was close to my base ,only minutes away .and rent was cheap .

We moved to the country 36 miles from my base ,but at least I knew things like that was not going on blocks from my home ..
Not trying to get in your business ,but that is a dangerous game to play
The world is a lot crazier now then it was then
now days they rape and kill girls and toss them in dumpsters like trash
SW-User
How to get over their addiction, it’s ironic bc I could never help myself with the things I help others with lol

I used to teach people how to be strong against obstacles in life by seeing the best in them. No matter how weak someone may be, or how much they've done wrong, there's always qualities in them worth praise. Help them see that, and they just might do more right in the world.

I taught my partner when we were together that she could trust me. I guess that's the only think i've ever taught anyone :o I need to get out more i guess.
SW-User
@SW-User Lol You don’t need to be a well rounded teacher. Teaching someone to trust, especially in a relationship takes a lot of time lol
SW-User
@SW-User You are wise as always... and yes it sure does! My partner had come from a bad place of mistrust... so it took some time.

Obeying and loving parents.
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@SW-User that is something more kids need to be taught today
My Daughter is a foster care provider
We teach kids manners and respect also ,
the kids need that more than ever
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@SW-User My Grandkids friends all love to come to stay with them
My Youngest has 2 kids not her own that will be living with her again when school starts ,they are with their Moms during the summer
But we got them to return to school ,and taught them manners and respect
They had none for their parents ,but they liked coming over ,
girls hanging with my granddaughter and the boys like to fish with my grandson
But the rule to be there is respect ,for my family and their own
We make a point right away to meet their parents ,let them know where and who their kids are around ,,and we have rules ,school is one of them
I have raised 10 kids ,my middle daughter 25 foster kids
And now my youngest , with her mans 3 and her 2, my daughter has 5 (2 of her mans kids are special needs )
and now 2 add on's ,,it is a full house
now 2 have gone back to high school ,,this is their senior year
She helped them get all their credits caught up with on line testing and night school ,,they will walk with their class and graduate this next June
So you would be surprised how love ,and being stern ,and demanding respect can change lives
I have a lot of kids that call me Papaw
I am the mean ole Grandpa they never had ,I love them all ,good kids
SW-User
I really appreciate that.

@SW-User Do we have leptin and thyroxin hormones in our body? Do they use them to regulate a patient’s unhealthy hormones?
SW-User
@SW-User We do have them in our endocrine system. Thyroxin is produced in the thyroid glands where your throat is. Leptin is produced by your fat storage cells. Thyroxin work to control your metabolic rate. Leptin work to inhibit appetite. Thyroxin finds more use in treatment of people with an abnormally low metabolic rate. Leptin to treat weight loss is clinically a working progress.

Either I was always given awesome kids...

Or I think I did a good job of teaching how to win and lose gracefully.

Oh... and how to retaliate without the ref seeing. Nothing bad... but to let the opponent know we won’t tolerate that behavior.
SW-User
@SW-User I think it was both. You had awesome kids and you were an awesome dad lol

I agree with the retaliation style. I’ve done it myself but just in a way they wouldn’t recognize it as revenge lol
