I love most long country lanes and have never found them futile,
but the one in that photo turns me off.
My country lanes are not closed in so that one cannot see the land around.
They do not have power poles or traffic visible in the distance.
They are not so narrow that there is no safe place to walk if a car should pass.
They are made of dirt, not asphalt.
And they lead through mazes of natural beauty so ancient that my heart gasps in joy.
