the only thing I dreamed of doing I will never be able to do
I know cause my boss owned his own helo and even he was not allowed to fly it since he was not licensed
but I wanted to fly a helo ,,
but everything else I wanted to do I have done
not many men I know can say he has lifted a locomotive inside a engine house with an overhead crane ,let alone one that runs on steam and also another diesel powered and he built the engine powering both ,the locomotive and the crane
Running a travel lift out on 2 rails over the water to pick up yachts is pretty cool too
Being in charge of a vessel that says US COAST GUARD on the side of it was my real dream come true
Running Locomotives was a pretty big deal ,
Can't actually steer it ,,but that much power and being able to stop it on a dime is pretty cool (and thats not saying it will stop on a dime ,but I know how long it takes ,and how to have it under control when I need it to stop )

but small Boats 65 feet and under I have been in charge
When you are a Coxswain ,you are officer in charge at sea regardless of rate of rank ,you are the skipper of the vessel
I became a Coxswain at 17

@appassionata I am 3rd generation Coast Guard ,so I was dreaming of being the one at the helm since I was a little boy
I was actually stationed in the city I was born in for 7 months
That was cool cruising through my home town down the ICW knowing all the fishermen along the way .
The marine patrol officers that hassled me as a boy
coming in for coffee at our station or meeting up with us for a call
getting to see I did make something of myself after all ,It was a good feeling
And then getting hired as a Machinist on the railroad too ,that was icing on the cake ,those are both jobs that gain you mad respect there
I got to do both
Now all I would have needed to do was take a shuttle into space
I would have topped them all LOL
We did have a local man who was an astronaut

@appassionata Will do ,my Dad worked at the space center ,
I have seen almost ever shot ,Dad knew all the astronauts
Had I not went into the Guard I more than likely would have been on the space center
My cousin today is the payload specialist ,his brother programs the subs in the sub base there
lots of my family is employed there ,
but I am proud of the path's I have taken ,I lived my life my way
But yea Brother ,,all the luck in the world to ya
I have seen almost ever shot ,Dad knew all the astronauts

the wife is as much a part of it as we are ,
Mine said if I stayed in one more day longer than my enlistment she was leaving me ,(but we were in Miami and I was on duty 36 hrs on every 3 days ,
and with Escabar saying he was going to kill us for stopping his pot boats ,
She never knew when someone was going to come tell her I was dead ,and my buddied didn't help telling her about all the stupid stuff I did to make sure we always saved the day ,,so I get she was tired of worry and being alone too
But then she left 4 yrs later anyway ,,
Wish she had just left and I stayed in ,,but it wasn't meant to be I guess
But bless all of you ,we are Family in more ways than one
have a blessed day ,I think I am ready for a nap 🤗❤🤗
