Do you think some people put themselves down constantly on here because they’re just looking for attention and sympathy from people?

i think sw has become a safe haven for a lot of people who struggle with self image and mental issues. sometimes it’s a crutch, perhaps. but i don’t think it’s for attention more than any other post on this site

@SW-User But if it’s not for attention, doesn’t that mean they don’t expect people to listen to their struggles?
SW-User
@SW-User i didn't say it wasn't for attention, that's not what i meant. all posts on sw are made for attention. but those kinds of posts aren't seeking more attention than any other post
SW-User
@SW-User I see, sorry for the misinterpretation. So how do you know if someone is using that kind of post only to gain attention?
SW-User
@SW-User that's the point, isn't it? there's no difference between the posts you and i post and posts like the ones you're talking about. everyone's posting here to get attention
SW-User
@SW-User It depends on how much you’re showing that you want the attention, I think. You know someone is desperate for attention when you see it
SW-User
@SW-User i don't understand why you're asking me how to recognize it then, if you already know when you see it 🤷🏻
SW-User
@SW-User I didn’t ask you how to recognize it. I asked you how you recognized it. And you said you couldn’t because, I believe, you were equalizing all types of attention that different people seek. So I just replied you’d know when someone was only looking for attention when you saw it. That’s different than looking for attention in terms of support and all that.

@SW-User you're right, i don't recognize it. i don't understand what you're talking about. i don't get why looking for attention is a negative thing, on a social media site where we're all looking for attention and friendship and support anyway. like a core idea of pedagogy is that no child acts out or is being a brat without a reason. i honestly think this applies to adults as well. if a person is asking for attention and validation, it's cause they need it. to say a person is acting too desperate or showing they need it too much, is weird to me

@SW-User Looking for attention is not bad. What I’m discussing in the post is people who are not genuine to the struggles that they use to get attention. They keep putting themselves down simply because they know people will give them praises to make them feel good. Since the feeling is so pleasurable, they keep doing it over and over again even though the struggles that they mention are made up.
SW-User
@SW-User if a person feels the need to make up struggles for attention, then that just a different cry for attention, isn't it?
SW-User
@SW-User Again, looking for attention is not bad. But being fake to look for attention is what most people would frown upon.
