I just came back from a holiday, and in one of the hotels there was a well-prepared book with the title "Seven reasons not to be a Christian - your arguments rebutted". As a devout atheist, I could not help trying to read its turgid prose. I was hoping (!) to find some meaty arguments which might call into question my view that there is zilch out there!
It was total crap. There wasn't a single 'fact'. It was all based on statements in a book written 2000- 3000 years ago, as if they were the end of all argument, plus how good you feel when you give yourself to Jesus! And, to the most obvious objection - how can an omnipotent, loving god cause tsunamis and cholera, etc, the answer was - as far I could understand - it's all man's fault.
No wonder churches in educated countries are rapidly emptying. All religions are, ultimately, for the naive and the under-educated
