What is the best way to get out of an appartment lease?

Found a new and better location and want to move. However one of the roommates is locked in a couple more months. Does anyone have any suggestions

ask for a settlement. it's usually just a percentage of what the lease is worth, because they can then re-rent the property immediately. in other words, the lessor can make money on the deal.
