Why do you get defensive when someone insults you?
It does not help your case. I would most always speak objectively in that scenario.

No, I try not to use personal insults. It indicates that the person can't think of anything better or reasonable to say. When you start using insults you have lost the discussion already.

@VolpeTredici I was generalizing, yes. A well articulated counter followed by a personal insult would be childish. Something most of us are guilty of at some stage.
