Huge myth I was just explaining to my partner, thought I'd check it out before posting here but can find nothing to support it on the net.
Turkish invasion of Cyprus had to be halted as civilians were getting massacred, UN troops sent in to keep the peace. The leader gives a brief on a map of Cyprus and says we'll put up a border here and drew on the map a freehand line with green chinagraph pencil. Not a good place for a border but with nothing else that's what they used and it was for ever more known as 'the green line'.
