No -- it was the House Un-American Activities witch hunt under Tailgunner Joe McCarthy. Or maybe those nuts in the 1970s who declared America's day care was filled with Satanists, jailed hundreds of people, ruined thousands of lives, and who were eventually proven wrong in every case.
