Do you help the homeless or destitute?

I try. I regularly buy The Big Issue, which is a publication sold by the homeless and those not so well off. I've given a young woman a pair of boots in winter: I'd bought a new pair of Dr Marten boots and had my old pair under my arm, when I saw a young woman kind of hunched over at a bus stop. She was wearing flimsy plastic shoes, I gave her the boots and had a chat.
I give stuff to those in need but not cash.
I'd like to consider myself an altruistic type. Do you?

The only homeless people that didn't get there on their own are the children and they would be the only ones I'd consider.

@Jackaloftheazuresand A bit harsh surely? Some people have mental ill health and others have their own difficulties. We shouldn't judge a person until we've walked a mile in their shoes (or on their bare feet!).
Just my take on it. There are some fakers out there too though :-(

@Cheesecake Harsh, yes. The mentally ill, like insane ones, they are beyond help unless you are a fully staffed institution. Other issues like depression and such are difficult to get out of but not impossible.

@Jackaloftheazuresand sometimes possible, sometimes not. Everyone's different. It's hard to generalise. A little kindness goes a long way :-)
