The Boy Scouts have broken the camel's back with this one. This is messed up.

@AlienZipper Seems like everyone in Boy Scouts disagrees.
The announcement follows many months of outreach by the BSA, which distributed videos and held meetings to discuss possibility expanding girls' participation beyond existing programs, such as Venturing, Exploring and Sea Scouts.

Surveys conducted by the Boy Scouts showed strong support for the change among parents not currently connected to the scouts, including Hispanic and Asian families that the BSA has been trying to attract. Among families already in the scouting community, the biggest worry, according to Surbaugh, was that the positive aspects of single-sex comradeship might be jeopardized.
@Pherick All I'm saying is they already have Girl Scouts. This change is completely unnecessary. There's nothing wrong with having separate organizations for both.

@AlienZipper Do you know what the Boy Scouts highest award is? Do you know what the Girl Scouts one is called?

For me atleast, is someone says they are an Eagle Scout, then I understand what that means, if a woman tells me she got her Gold Award, I have no idea what that is.

So on some level, being a Boy Scout is "better", or atleast means more to a nationwide audience.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@Pherick I get that, but if that's the case, I don't understand why the Girl Scouts as an organization hasn't worked harder to make itself more familiar with the general public like the Boy Scouts did. That way there'd be no need for this move.

@AlienZipper Well the BSA thinks that they can get membership numbers up through this. This has NOTHING to do with society pressuring BSA to accept girls. BSA did studies and research. Parents want this, they want one place to bring all their kids to, so BSA saw it as a way to raise their numbers.

The Girl Scouts are actually really pissed about it.
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@Pherick I bet they are pissed about it. It will probably pull their own numbers down.
