Why do people thank god instead of medical science when they recover from an awful illness/accident?

@Starsandfire Yeah I know, my own mom kept telling me to pray to God to heal when I had to go to surgery, I asked her then if I shouldn't be praying instead that the doctors didn't mess up. I got the God will heal you reply
