Is it better to leave it up to people's imaginations to determine details, or more afffective to give as many details as possible?

Depends on the task being asked, the training you have prepared them for and the cost of the outcome if they screw the pooch.

I generally do not believe in micro managing anybody so if you train and hire well you can often be better off leaving it to them to get the results with their own plan/details.
