No one I know personally.
But I read an autobiography that moved me.
A child called It, by Dave Pelzer.
This is a story about utter neglect and abuse of a child by the hands of his own mother, extremely heartbreaking.
But he turned his life around, is now and author of some autobiographies and self help books.

Years ago my missus came to me one day, 'you'll never guess what Alison Smith* heard. Somebody said my kid is badly behaved but he's no Jack Smith (her son), of course she took her to task about it.'
JS was a proper little shite and his mother didn't help with her dream of him becoming a beach bum and hooking up with wealthy women.
Anyway earlier this year I thought I'd see what had become of him and looked him up on FB, well against all the odds he's a fire fighter.
* Names changed of course
