I think so. Scots are a different people than the English. Both nations have existed for over a thousand years and have only been politically united for a bit over 300 years. What kept the union together were 1) a common enemy on the continent (first France and then Germany), 2) the common Protest religion and 3) the empire with its opportunites for the Scots (many explorers, settlers and officials in the British Empire were Scots). There is no more enemy on the continent, the influence of religion has declined dramatically and the empire is gone. All these developments have started or accelerated in the last 50 years and in the same period the Scottish National Party has increased in size and votes. No coincidence for sure.

I think there were will be a peaceful seperation some when this century.

I didn't know you knew anything that wasn't rugby😂

@thatscottishguy Mate, I studied history and read lots of books about politics, history, economics, evolution and so on. :-)

But I was actually debating if I should mention the Calcutta Cup rivalry in my comment. 😂

😂😂 Unfortunately when it comes to independence to many bring sport into it.

@thatscottishguy Well, sport in the least of the problems. An independent Scotland would have to put its finances in order. Joining EFTA might also be a good idea.

I like the idea and yes it would needed to be sorted out but some people are more interested in which team supports which vote.

@thatscottishguy There are always these people and there have always been and always will be.

@dunpender True enough. Thus one could argue that the Scottish elites, who agreed to the union, forced the Scottish men to fight England's enemies.

I remember that Scottish troops fought for the French during the Hundred Years War.
