Where would be the best place to go and just start completely fresh?

Within the US. I need to find a job quickly & a little shack to live in when I get there.

Depends on what you like.
Michigan is full of woodlands, and the farther north you go, the more prevalent they become.
However, this comes with cold winters and hot summers.
The weather here can be unpredictable.
Most people here are into outdoor stuff like boating, fishing, camping, and walking in the park.
Ice fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling in winter.
A lot of beautiful places to visit, and we are near Canada; the further north you go.
Not a big nightlife, but there are bars, festivals, and downtown events in the small towns.
The bigger cities would have a lot more to offer if you are into going out.
Of course, the rental costs are higher, and certain areas have higher crime levels
We have a few islands you can visit, lighthouses, a waterfall in the Upper Peninsula, and we sit on the Great Lakes; we have many touristy-type places.
The rents are around rural areas are around $700-$1200, depending on what type of rental and where you live.
Areas to avoid are Flint and Jackson, MI.
Certain areas in Detroit, certain areas in Saginaw, certain areas in Grand Rapids, and certain areas in Lansing are not really desirable either.
Grand Rapids is pretty nice in the better areas.
If you like living in a smaller town but having access to a larger city, Greenville, MI is a good spot. (I don't live there, but know people who do}
They are close to Grand Rapids, MI, which has quite a bit to offer.
Midland, MI, is a very nice area, but it is hard to find housing there.
I grew up there, and it is pretty safe, and it's a cultural area.
If I could afford to move, I would move to Cadillac, MI, a small area, but beautiful.
I also loved Petosky, MI in the Upper Peninsula, but it is a touristy place, so I don't think I would want to put up with the tourists in the summer, and the Upper Peninsula can have severe winters.
Michigan is considered to be a lower economic area, but there are always health care/ Direct Care jobs available
