Every once in a while.....
Every once in a while the world redeems itself just a little. I have felt a bit hammered down due to work pressures and life in general...getting old I guess.
Had to go to town to renew my Fed Med card and also my CDL was coming due in June so two birds with one stone...My license is now good until 2033....I will be almost as old as @Degbeme by then.
I decided to treat myself to some ice cream at Culvers....it's a Wisconsin semi fast food place....I am going through the drive through and it seems that everyone had the same idea as I did. While I am waiting to get up to the ordering kiosk, I am startled by a young girl knocking on my window. I roll it down and she says "sir, do you know that your tailgate is down?" I must not have gotten it latched entirely and did not notice it was down due to the tonneau cover. "No! Thanks for letting me know! I really appreciate it!" and I did, because my traveling bag and toolbox were there, with the bag being right close to the edge. "Can I close it for you?" she asked. It is a heavy tailgate and I said, "if you can, that would be wonderful!" She went back and slammed the tailgate closed, waved and jumped into the car behind me with a woman who was obviously her mother.
I ordered and when I got to the window to collect my treat and pay, I gave the gal at the window an extra $10 and told her to apply it to whatever they were ordering in the car behind me. As I pulled out and away and they pulled up, I watched in my rear view mirror and saw both the girl and her mother with big smiles and the little girl waving at me. I stuck my arm out the window and waved back and went on my way.
