Southern Comfort found in Canada is actually bottled in Quebec using Canadian-distilled alcohol (35%) as Southern Comfort's base, but which is otherwise a fruit-liqueur at the end of the day that results from various spices and fruit syrup components being added to the alcohol base.
Southern Comfort therefore, is not a distilled whisky, but is blended to taste like a fruity whisky which is why Southern Comfort is not actually an American-made product. Only the recipe for it was made in the USA back in the 1800's, but the finished product can be blended and bottled anywhere in the world.
