Do you like ‘gentrification’?

I think places are much better afterwards.

Gentrification has done nothing but push long established Minority families out of their homes, so that hipsters can have their trendy pad thai restaurants in former inner city neighborhoods.

I think it massively improves the areas and good food is important. @NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea Improvement at what cost, displacement of people, over priced cost of living and housing?
Strongtea · 22-25, M
I hadn’t really thought about all that, I just always thought the places looked nicer/felt safer/had more to do@NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea In other words, Portland used to be a very diverse city, NOW it's being called the whitest city.

Oh. I always thought it looked a cool place to visit though@NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea That's the problem, no one ever sees the more negative effects of gentrification.

@Strongtea Back in the day it was, when the calis and east coasters invaded and took over, they destroyed my Beloved HomeTown.

@Strongtea So many have moved into the Portland area that tens of thousands of acres of farmland in outlying areas of former unincorporated townships have been turned into super crowded developments and strip malls. The coup d'grace was when they renamed a DownTown Portland street after a San Francisco politician that was murdered in 1978 that just happened to be gay, that HE HAD NOTHING to do with Portland, when we ALREADY had our own gay rights pioneer going back to 1971, years before Frisco became known as the gay mecca.

Yeah, I get you but the other alternative is telling people to stay where they are. It’s a problem and I get that it’s frustrating.@NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea The rich leftist elite and hipsters do not want them there, they are deliberately pushed out.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
I don’t think that’s totally true@NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea Are you calling me a liar? Go to ANY city that has gentrified areas, Portland, Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, Brooklyn, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Dallas, Atlanta, New Oreleans, etc., and show me photo proof that poor Minorities are still there.
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Dude have you ever been to ANOTHER country?@NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea What does that have to do with the price of green chili soup in New Mexico, hmmm?
Strongtea · 22-25, M
In gentrified areas in London,Manchester, Leeds there are still people from all walks of life.@NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea How many of them are paycheck to paycheck poor or living on the dole, hmmm?
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Probably quite a lot, but that will be for white folks too.@NativePortlander1970
@Strongtea Did you not watch that clip from Boys in the Hood? Gentrified areas were pretty much once Minority neighborhoods that got taken over by rich lumosine liberals and hipsters, very, very few white people lived in them before gentrification.
