So, I totally escalated a simple statement at work this morning

My coworker asks me if I might know what it would cost to hike Mount Everest
No I don't
That's when she responds, about $1,500 plus the cost of airfare to that part of the world...and adds that she and another coworker are contemplating making this trip
馃挱 馃
I immediately declare that I will join them, and then I went around recruiting others 馃挭

Will I go?
Maybe.
Would I want to go with them?
Sure.
Do I want to hike Everest.
Hell yeah I do
I love a strong challenge

Great... The world sorely needs even more city slickers who get winded climbing a hill cutting their mountaineering teeth on the world's highest mountain for their first ever climb.

Can't you just stick with a theme park or a beach somewhere in Spain instead of adding to the overall body count on Everest???

$1,500??? A bit cheap considering everything you might potentially need... do your own research before committing further to this.

@HootyTheNightOwl Or maybe a Butlins.. Are there any Butlins left???馃樂
@whowasthatmaskedman Sure... but I don't think they cleaned the roof of the main tent since 1932 - especially at Butlins Skegness. Walk With Me Tim has been vlogging about the dirty tents for the last three years that I know of.

@HootyTheNightOwl yes, I've seen that the cost is well higher than her estimate
I always tease her that her math is implorable

If and when my time comes to be, it might as well be at Everest 馃槈
@Ferric67 It's not just your life, though... it's the lives of those forced to locate whatever remains of you.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@HootyTheNightOwl Point of order. The rule is that if you die on the track your body can be left if it is unsafe to move. There are a number of well know bodies clearly visible above the permanent ice line. Recovering and removing the built up garbage of the decades is more important to the locals..馃樂
@whowasthatmaskedman Just because your body can be left, it still doesn't mean that you should be cutting your teeth on Everest.

There are plenty of other mountains that aren't as tall for people to practice on before they try climbing Everest.

As for the waste... that should be everyone's problem. We already know that plastics get into the water we drink when it breaks down - there's no way of saying that your next glass won't have radiation in it from where we used to dump barrels of radioactive waste out at sea or microplastics from who knows where. No, I'm not going to say that Everest is the only source of microplastics because we still haven't dealt with finding a proper way to recycle all our used plastics to this day.

@whowasthatmaskedman Yeah. They implemented it this year. Each climber has to use wag bags and bring down at least 18 pounds of trash.
whowasthatmaskedman70-79, M
@Ynotisay Hopefully that takes some of the glamour out of it for the tourists..馃樂
@whowasthatmaskedman @Ynotisay Not before time!!!

I know that they've been cleaning up some of the dead in recent years, too... They finally managed to move Greenboots to his final resting place away from the public eye.

While I'm not looking to force them to bring the bodies back, the least they can do is to make sure they bring their own packaging, wrappers and trash back with them. At least that cuts out adding to what's already up there.
