I really feel for you two. He's so young to have to deal with that kind of pain. It's more than enough even when you're grown. Crashing down to earth that hard takes a while to get over, and some of the damage never goes away.
Sometimes it helps to be grateful for what you've had when times are dark like this. What a joy it was to have an adventure like that. How few people actually get to see all the things you've seen. How he was able to stay with two loving parents for this long.
Still, it's a lot of darkness to deal with and no positive spin is ever going to replace the void you're left with after losing someone so close to you, or while seeing someone fade before your eyes. I wish I could be there just to hug you and give you a shoulder to lean on through this. It's crushing to have to bear the darkness alone.
