Do you love or hate airports and air travel generally?

I'm not a big fan of air travel (I haven't had a passport for 20 yrs), but I absolutely definitely hate airports. I can't do hyper-noisy hyper-crowded spaces very well, and will tend to shrink into any corner I can find to keep away from the activity if I have to go to an airport (either to use a plane, or pick up someone).

No problem with flying. Just hate the crowds waiting to fly. It wasn't always this bad. 9/11 put a stop to the efficiency.

Planes are just a fast way to get from one place to another. While something like Business class is great for a long haul, it really is not having screaming babies or annoying kids near you that makes or breaks it for me. Airports and everything attached on the other hand is a nightmare and I will never do it again unless absolutely forced to.. You meet a nicer class of people at ground level..😷

I have flown abroad on holiday only once, and otherwise only a few times domestically for work reasons.

I used to be afraid of air travel, but not of the flying. I enjoyed that.

Instead I was nervous of airports. All I knew of them was news reports and films showing vast mazes of interminable corridors filled with hordes of expensively-dressed people obviously knowing where they were rushing, likely to bulldoze any nervous, slow tyro into the carpet. That and enormous halls full of complicated desk and gate systems, very long queues and people snoozing all over the place on heaps of luggage.

My frist trips, from London (Heathrow) to Edinburgh, largely confirmed this impression.

So I let my companions take the lead!

Those flights take about an hour runway-to-runway. It would be easier and possibly quicker by train, city-to-city. The fastest trains from London (King's Cross) to Edinburgh take about 4 hours for the 400 miles, but the stations are within the towns and don't impose long booking-in and luggage-waiting times.
