Greek Islands Vacation
At the local Christian theater’s trivia night last night they had a silent auction. I noticed there were several really nice looking vacations that nobody was signing up for. Of particular interest to me was a “Greek Island Choice Getaway” for 2 guests and 5 nights valued at $2,100. I texted my mom asking if she would go with me if I won, and she replied, “sure.” So I started the bidding at $1,345. Nobody else bid on it, so I won!
I’ve never been to another country before, and I thought this sounded exotic and amazing. I’ve heard that Santorini is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, so I’m leaning toward choosing a resort on that island; however, I also noticed that Rhodes is an option, and I would also like to see where the Colossus of Rhodes once stood. I wonder if it would be feasible to travel to Olympus to see where the great Statue of Zeus once stood too? I also wonder if I’ll need to learn the Greek language? I imagine it’s not an easy language to learn.
I figure it would be an incredibly long flight from St. Louis, Missouri to Athens, Greece, so I’m hoping we will have a layover somewhere in Western Europe. I look forward to seeing the airport there and getting another stamp on my passport. Maybe on the way back home we might even have a layover in another country different from that of the first layover?
I have 12 months to book the trip and 24 months to complete it. I’m so looking forward to trying exotic foods, shopping, historical sightseeing, beautiful landscapes/seascapes, and of course meeting beautiful women. Please comment if you have any travel advice for a guy who’s never left the US before headed to the Greek Islands!
