@Ruya7 I have to be in Canada most of the time with time difference and other things.
But yes, having the option to work remotely allows me to have extended vacations when all I have to do is make sure to check emails everyday for anything urgent to deal with. 3-4weeks each trip specially when I visit the other side of the world.
I think a lot of people would like to to do that. But it's not free. There are the "digital nomads" out there whose work can be done from anywhere with a good internet signal. But short of that it comes down to making time for yourself. Get off work and....fill in the blank. Or what I used to do before I moved to where I play, is leave Saturday morning, go backpacking in the mountains, and come back late Sunday. Did that most every weekend for a long time. It became a beneficial routine. So finding the things that are important to you, and making them a priority, can make work much more manageable.
If you can afford it then go for it. I met a guy this week who retired from the British Army at 50 and has traveled in his Land Rover from the UK to China via all the countries in between, all over Europe and down to Mali in North Africa. Took him three years
Now he's planning a trip from north to south and back again in the Americas. But he's putting that off until the present disturbances die down so that fuel will not be so expensive.
My own travels are less adventurous but I spend about five months a year travelling in the UK and I love it.
My son who is about your age, just bagged a really great job with Siemens. It will allow him to work remotely for about 10 months every year - he is beyond excited and we've already started talking about the journeys he wants to take.
We have been making time here and there for mini excursions and new experiences because life is short and if not now ? When ...no one is promised tomorrow.
Yes I have. When I worked we would take day trips and weekend trips. Now that we are retired we purchased a motorhome. That makes all the difference when traveling. Now we do anywhere from four day trips to seven week trips. My wife and I love traveling and with the motorhome kitty comes with us too.
I felt the same. Working 5/6 days a week is a waste of a life. So I retired 3 years early now I can go bush as often as I like and not have to worry about being back home by Sunday night.
Next year. I wont be leaving the country. Its too much hassle at my age and frankly this country is much better than most of the alternatives.. But there is a lot of this one still to see..😷
@Birdbox1986 You are very smart. But maybe like staying 3 months at a time as visa allows. 3 months in Vienna, 3 months in Slovenia, Istanbul. I don't know, I just need a change. 😅
As I age I travel less. Sometimes it is because I'd been there before. Or it is a pain to get there, not worth the cost. And some things look the same everywhere so might as well stay close. Yet mostly it is because I lack the stamina and youthful curiosity.
I still like to take random wandering day-trips in the local countryside and mountains. I've grown to appreciate more the rolling fields of crops, the cow pastures, the local parks.
For most places I might be curious about, there is usually a YouTube of somebody driving or hiking though it. I am a little disabled in my legs, so I cannot hike far. I usually only drive to places.
@Cowboybob I looked up a few countries and it states you can stay up to 90 days usually without a visa. That would be a good enough time to explore each one. 😊
Well, I think you don't necessarily need to quit a job to enjoy those things. Nothing like taking a full 2 weeks off to explore. Think of the job as a means to a ways for the other things you want to do.
Starting somewhere between 5 AM and 10 and finishing between 5 PM and 11 I feel it. I turned 50 this year and my body is letting me know it's time to enjoy movement well I have it
