It's the everyday things which makes a country familiar or strange. I enjoy looking at the details in different countries, but especially in Europe, trying to find an affordable souvenir which is actually made in a specific country can be quite difficult because our global trading means that we get most things everywhere. The foreign language is on the packaging is about all that distinguishes some products.
When I went to Canada, I did enjoy going into Walmart simply because of the novelty. I was also introduced to Tim Horton's which then was a Canadian speciality, but now is just another international chain and we have them all over the UK now.
