Don’t Do This in Kyoto

My youngest nephew just returned from a two-week trip to Japan with some friends. He had a great time, visiting Tokyo, Kyoto, and other places in the country. I’m sure he was respectful to everyone he encountered and never rude (he’s always this way). The same can’t be said for the tourist in the short video posted above.

Just because you are a tourist doesn't make stalking and harassment OK.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow No, absolutely not. It's not okay for anyone to engage in that kind of behavior.

So uncomfortable

@romell Agreed. Asking for permission beforehand would be the decent thing to do.
Wow. And the fact that someone has to tell her not to chase the poor woman for a photo ! Gawd, how embarrassing. 🤦🏻
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard Horribly embarrassing. I just hope she's not an American, but she probably is. It's unacceptable behavior in any case.

Very embarrassing.

Good grief. 🤦🏽‍♀
Magenta · F
Beyond rude! 🤦🏻
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Magenta It certainly is.

Last I knew, they shut the street down because of foreigners doing exactly this.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@HootyTheNightOwl Think I read something about that. It's apparently been a big problem there and not limited to just an occasional tourist.
HootyTheNightOwl · 41-45
@Rutterman No, it's not an occasional thing. With a lot of the people who are doing it being white and English speaking, the Japanese think that they are English... so us English are getting the rough end of that stick.

There's no need for it... most of these geishas aren't even 21 yet. Just let them go about their day - they'd soon be throwing hands if a foreigner was approaching their 16, 17 or 18 yo daughter in that way, so why do it to these girls???
MissBarbara · 70-79
Did you ever notice that Kyoto is an anagram of Tokyo?
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
@MissBarbara that’s what I said first
MissBarbara · 70-79
@Monalisasmith86 Oh yes, so you did. I didn't see that when I posted my answer.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@MissBarbara Yes, I have noticed that. 😎
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
It's obvious the lady doesn't want her picture taken she's a person not a thing
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Justmeraeagain That's right. It's obvious from the get-go that she didn't want her picture taken.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Rutterman Some people are not too bright
People are not a tourist attraction 🤦
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@NerdyPotato No, they definitely are not. You'd think everyone would understand this.
@Rutterman you'd think, but apparently not...
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
Did you realised Kyoto is Tokyo jumbled 😝
@Monalisasmith86 Both have been the capital at different points too.
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow so they went like hmmmm we don’t want Kyoto to be capital city so they named it Tokyo 😝
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@Monalisasmith86 Yes, I did realize that. 😎
WonderGirl · 41-45, F
Was she an American? That was horrible.
Rutterman · 46-50, M
@WonderGirl I'm not sure. The woman telling her to knock it off sounded like an American, but it's not clear if they knew each other or were traveling together.

Yes, it was horrible.
Monalisasmith86 · 41-45, F
Did he see or pay for a geisha 😝
