Many, many times to places all over the world. Obviously, I'd do it again. Sometimes it was safe, other times not. I've found that, in general, travel is safe if one keeps a low profile, respects local customs (educate yourself) and chooses smart destinations. Check the travel advisory resources for your country. The state department and CIA have online resources in the USA. For example.

@daddywashere very cool. It's there one place that comes to mind for a good first solo vacation?
@IAmJess it depends, what kind of activities are you interested in? Culture, like theater and museums? Outdoors, like hiking and skiing? Do you want to party? Are you seeking a religious experience? The world has tons to offer from sailing from island to island in the Caribbean to wandering the cafes and sights of Paris. Both are wonderful. Yes I've done them. Budget, interest and time determine what you can do. I'm happy to offer ideas if you want to give me some clues.

@daddywashere
Culture, like theater and museums?
- Yes for sure. I love museums!!
Outdoors, like hiking and skiing?
- 💯 Love skiing and would be willing to try hiking.
Do you want to party?
- In small doses. I'm far from a "party girl" ... kinda introverted to be honest ... but looking to expand horizons some. 🤏
Are you seeking a religious experience?
- Who isn't?? Oh wait ... you mean like religion religion. Yeah, not really. I'm good with the whole spirituality thing. Not looking for changes.
sailing from island to island in the Caribbean
- if it involved stopping and exploring the islands, then sure
wandering the cafes and sights of Paris
- oh hells yeah! this will happen someday ... maybe not for my first trip though

@IAmJess I'm not certain where you are or your native language, but,I'll assume you want a plane flight somewhere.
How about London, during the off season, like during spring or fall? It can be great and not too pricey. Lots of places to see and experience. Fairly easy to get around. Little language issues for English speakers. People don't tend to harass women who are unescorted. Museums are outstanding and free. Trips about Great Britain from there can be nice. Chester zoo. Brighton Beach, Stratford Upon Avon for Shakespeare fans. Loads and loads of history.

Skiing in France and/or Sweden can be incredible.
The Netherlands is quite nice. Again, museums, history. It's easy to get to Amsterdam.

@IAmJess if you are interested in a more outdoorsy adventure, there's an outfit called Wilderness Travel. They plan trips all over the world. A variety of skills and types of activities. Is nice because they have excellent guides, know what they are doing, you'll be in the company of fellow adventurers and you can go solo.

@daddywashere I'm from Boston, English is my native language, and I speak a little Spanish. And yes, I want to fly somewhere.
I like the London idea, but maybe not for my first trip.
A ski trip is an interesting idea. Why France/Sweden over like Switzerland or Austria?
I just looked up Wilderness Travel and, OMG, they have a ton of Iceland options. Digging deeper now. Thanks!

@IAmJess I'm guessing anywhere in the alps is probably great, I have been skiing in Chamonix, France and Åre, Sweden (and many other places that are mostly in the USA). My suggestions are based on places or sources I've experienced.
A big part of the travel fun is research. Enjoy!
