Has anyone here ever had valuables stolen?

If you have had valuables stolen or lost luggage while traveling how did you locate your lost luggage or retrieve your stolen valuables?

In St. Croix someone broke into my rented jeep and stole all my cash while I was snorkeling.
At least they were nice enough to leave my credit cards.
Lesson: never rent a soft top.

@robingoodfellow were your belongings in plain site inside the vehicle?

@justanothername no, had them hidden. Thought my wallet would be safer hidden inside the jeep than with my belongings on the beach.
But it was a case of someone seeing a tourist was dumb enough to rent a soft top that could be cut into while he's busy underwater at a secluded beach.
Like I said, lesson learned the hard way.
