Do hotel door keys usually open more than just your own room?

I came back to my room after a night out with my friends, too drunk to realise I鈥檇 got the wrong room, swiped my key card and walked on some old guy working on a laptop. I realised and ran away feeling embarrassed to my actual room/

Surely I shouldn鈥檛 have got through the door with my room card?

That's creepy.. At the last hotel I stayed at they used a password door lock system, that was a bit unsettling too 馃槀
