I have both Dutch and Irish heritage. The Dutch have a long history of speed skating. My great grandfather and grandfather were speed skating champions in western New York State. Both would skate on the frozen Genesee River into the city of Rochester. I have a pair of my great grandfather’s skates hanging in my apartment.
