Two years ago, we did Christmas in Iceland. It turned out to be a good vacation.

@amethyst1 I was only in Reykjavik on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I bet you the small cities were just as quiet.

@amethyst1 In theory, they have a tradition of getting books as gifts on Christmas Eve and they spend Christmas reading their gifts.

@SW-User 🙂 I have actually heard of that. Its a nice idea.

Every where I went for the 27 years on the Army was not scenic at Christmas or safe.
So now I choose where and how I go for my own pleasure around Ohio where I live now!

I haven't but i'd love to, especially to go somewhere that was cold and with snow. Christmas in the heat isn't fun at all.

We were planning this year to go to Brussels with my brother and his wife. But that's obviously been canned some months ago

For some reason uncle Sam always sent me somewhere other than home for the holidays
WillaKissing · 56-60, M
@MarineBob I am right there with you for 27 years worth!

As a German I can assure you that Germany is not nice at Christmas. Or any other time for that matter.

a former communist country back in the 80's. It sucked.

@SomeAreBoojums I'm really intrigued now!

@amethyst1 I was just little kid. So, plane land after midnight in the (former) capital city. Freezing, snowing, and we can't get a hotel because it Xmas and all booked up. Finally we talk to some dude who say his mom have a boarding house, she put us up. We go there, the woman take us in, must be 2am by now. Show us the room, we pay her, get undressed, go to bed, only to be woke up an hour later by loud banging on door. Its the stazi or whatever they call the secret police in that land, demanding to see our passports. They confiscate our passports and leave. My mother FREAKS OUT! However, in a few hours, they come back with passports and tell us all checks out. It was clear that this was a country that was coming apart at the seams, and that civil war was imminent (it would happen about 12 years later)

@SomeAreBoojums Ooh, that does sound scary. I assume you were there legally?
I actually listened to a documentary about a tunnel that was made - twice - under the Berlin Wall to rescue people. Very risky but interesting!
