Accommodation Dilemmas: Comfort or Budget?

So I'm visiting my LDR boyfriend for 20 days.
Comfort or budget? I'm just here to spend time with him, not tour the area.

I wanted to stay in a hostel to save money, but I'm obliged to book a private room for me and him. (Like a guest room, hotel room or an apartment)

Since I'm getting a private room, I might as well get a more comfortable one for the long term stay. The cheapest would be the guesthouse, however it's really cramped with limited amenities. ($1.1K)

I'm wondering if I should get an apartment instead since I could gain access to a kitchen and washer. I like the idea of being able to cook for him for breakfast etc, perhaps a nice sofa and good room ambience~ ($2.08K)

But do you see the difference in price? With that extra 0.98K spent, I could make good use of it for transport, food and shopping.

Well I'm stuck on the fence whether I should compromise my money or comfort + ambience. Is it worth it? Trying to decide whether I should pick a guest house, hotel or an airbnb apartment. :/

Are you planning to cook or do laundry on the trip? If so, the extra expense for the apartment will be saved by not having to eat out breakfast and have clothes laundered. For about three weeks, as I see in the subsequent response that it's Hong Kong, the daily rate for the apartment is not outrageous. However, if you do not plan to cook any meals, breakfast or dinner, and do not need laundry facilities, go with the less expensive accommodations and find things to do together outside of the apartment.

Yes if its feasible, I plan to buy groceries and eat in; with the occasional eating out. I have the luxury of time in this trip. In the entire duration of the trip, we may head out in the late afternoons or something. Or stay in for an occasional day.

I plan to get laundry done since I wouldn't be bringing sufficient clothes for 20 days. I'll need to wash and reuse. Not to mention, I may buy new clothes while I'm there.

The daily rate of an apartment and 3 - 4 star hotel accommodation seems to be on par with each other in pricing. So if I were to compare which is better; the apartment seems more viable.

However, my heart breaks when I compare the money I could have saved.
The adequate clean guest room with a bed and toilet is $54/night
While an apartment or hotel with a good ambience / interior is $100 - $120/night

It's either go big or go home, I'd say. It's either I prioritise the comfort of our private time together or the savings that can be better used outside for other activities. :/

The apartment is well worth it for the trip you have described. I would go that route.

He already paid for the previous trip's accommodation when we were together in Thailand. So this time, I'll be paying for myself.

@Svarog: Well he did pay for himself when he visited my country. So it's only natural I do the same. Usually he'll help pay for my meals, so I think that's alright. :/

What country, the U.S.?
Azoica · 26-30, F
Nope, Hong Kong. Accommodation there gets expensive due to the lack of space. :/

@Azoica: Yeah I would expect Hong Kong to be rough

@1961dave: Yeah it's pricey. Not sure whether to compromise on money or comfort. What would you do if you're in my shoes?
