Are all first world tourists like this?
So I happen to be African and black and well I've seen some behavior from tourists coming to Africa which makes me wonder what it is they tell y'all over there about travelling in Africa.
One is how they sort of fear us? My friend and I (we're both ladies) were once stranded between two towns while travelling around and we resorted to hitch hiking because it was either that or walking. The first group of cars that drove by contained white people who looked foreign and they all gave us this, "There is NO way we're giving you a ride" look. Not in a rude way but in like a very cautious way. I thought we looked pretty harmless and cute but they still left us in the dust
Another thing I've noticed is how they become wary when you mention anything to do with the economy. I mean they give you this look as if you're about to ask for money or something which some disguise with this patronizing fake sympathy. What's with that? I don't even look poor - I have a job, a car and my own apartment
Anyway, would you agree that the above represents the typical western view of Africans or have I just had some unfortunate encounters?
