To show you the rugged beauty that is Tasmania, here is the winning Photo in the Astrophotography Competition. Luke Tscharke's breathtaking snap of the Milky Way rising above Tasmania's wilderness.
Titled Crescent Moon at Lake Oberon, it isn't obvious at first sight that it's a night picture, but it was taken in the early morning about 4:00am from the Western Arthur Range between the astronomically named Mount Orion and Mount Sirius. The shading of the mountains in the background, and of course the Milky Way rising over the lake, the moon and a meteor on the right make for a stunning advertisement for Tasmania
