I Have Scars and Cuts That Tell a Story

My friend and I are writing about our lives. This evening we exchanged a few heartbreaking stories leaving me feeling particularly emotional. Although we've known each other for a while, she had no idea about what I shared and was so sad. Although this evening, I began writing about it, I can't help but feel like crying. I'm wondering how do writers cover such painful material?

For me, it has the opposite effect when I write about things that were particularly painful it is kind of like therapy and helps a lot even if it helps me by making me cry the entire time I am writing it.

I find it is easier to write about it than it is to talk about. I find it helps me better.
They treat the subject - be it their own past self, quite objectively. As priority, they have the act of writing as their focal.
More the emotions, better is the outcome!

@EjoyH, not that this story needed any help, I'm a compelling storyteller too. Reliving it orally or in writing just isn't something I was expecting to get into today. It's like, I know it happened but rarely get into the details like I did tonight.
I think it's better when they don't. It's your story. Vent to your hearts content. Your readers can relate and you'll hopefully feel better.

@Rain, thanks. I find something free, innocent, and trailblazing about her. What do you think?
@hami1091 True. Like a diary of some sort. :)

@hami, writing usually has a therapeutic affect on me too yet I'm feeling like a dam about to burst with tears.
