Crying IS a sign of weakness

I used to think that crying was just a healthy outlet for emotional distress.

However as I have gotten older I have realized that it actually IS a sign of weakness.

And yea sometimes we are weak. Everyone is weak at times but lets not pretend like that is okay.

Crying is a physical representation of inability to control your emotions. It means that you have not been properly trained to deal with the second arrow of unhappiness.

The first arrow being the unpleasant event that happened. The second arrow hitting you that you shoot yourself being how YOU DECIDE to feel about that event.

Avoiding this second arrow (controlling how you decide to feel) is a practice that requires time and self discipline to master. Some people are better at this than others.

Mindfulness is not something you should have only when its easy to do and there are no challenges to your peace of mind. Control of your emotions is part of being mindful and is a hallmark of a healthy adult.

So yes crying IS a sign of weakness. It is weak control of your emotions and as such it makes perfect sense why it should not be acceptable if you want to be a strong person.

People say not to make decisions when you are angry because anger like sadness and crying is a condition where you are not able to make objective decisions. It is a form of insanity. This is also not effective in life. It is a weak way to set the course for your life. So if you are crying you lack mental fortitude and also probably are temporarily insane. For this reason theres nothing noble about crying. It should be a source of shame.

I remember seeing a show years ago where they tested the composition of women's tears and they were full of hormones, and theorised women cry once a month to help them get rid of excess hormones

I have no idea how valid that was

But it was interesting. There's a lot we don't understand

Crying is a natural bodily function which the body uses for many things, including emotional regulation. Perceiving it as weakness is a choice. Weakness is relative to the person who perceives it. Where you see weakness, I see as a healthy expression of human emotion.

Bullshit. Crying in situations where you need to hold it together because it could reduce your chances to succeed is weakness. Crying to release stress in the moment when you are safe is totally okay and normal, not weakness at all.
@CrazyMusicLover Unpleasant events actually should never cause stress if you are a strong person. If they cause stress it is because of the attachments you have decided to make to them.

This can be applied all the way up to death itself.

@unsociableAnthony What you describe is sociopathy or psychopathy. It's like being closer to an animal than human. If you remove sadness and fear from your emotional palette you strip away many layers of complexity of human emotionality. You make so many forms of art and genres meaningless. You impoverish the living reducing it to some kind of predictable script.

@unsociableAnthony Ability to feel complex emotions isn't weakness. It makes life more varied and interesting. The weakness is losing control over them and letting them completely unrestrained and out of balance.
