The rise of authoritarianism in liberal democracies is scaring me.
@helenS This is indeed terrifying. France, USA,UK and more seem to be rushing headlong into oblivion. Wake up FFS!

@Adeptlinguist Republics are not immortal, and, once dead, they won't come back. The Roman Republic never came back.

@helenS Yeah, the problem with democrats is that they believe they are immortal because they still vote even after they are dead, and that no one is above the law...other than them. Sorry, sister, this country was built on law and order as a Constitutional Republic, not a corrupt democracy.

@TexChik I used to think that authoritarianism is a right-wing thing, but that's not true. Taking a look at Venezuela suffices...

@helenS Venezuela is a dictatorship

@TexChik Yes 😕
@helenS It's where the extremes meet. Look at France - extreme left and extreme right both support Putin!
helenS · 36-40, F
@Adeptlinguist ... but only the current incarnation of the extreme left is antisemitic.
@helenS True, but the Soviet Union was pretty antisemitic too...

@Adeptlinguist Not in the 1920s and 1930s.
